Condicionais e interrupção de código PHP

Suponha que temos uma variável:

  $test = true;
?>

Vamos exibir um trecho de código HTML se nossa variável for igual a true:

html<?php
  if ($test) {
    echo '<p>text</p>';
  }
?>

Podemos reescrever este código da seguinte forma, com interrupção das tags PHP:

html<?php if ($test) { ?>
  <p>text</p>
<?php } ?>

Isso pode ser simplificado ainda mais, se usarmos a sintaxe alternativa do if:

html<?php if ($test): ?>
  <p>text</p>
<?php endif; ?>

html<?php
  $show = true;
?>

html<div>
  <p>text1</p>
  <p>text2</p>
  <p>text3</p>
</div>
